New hires, upon initial enrollment can elect up to two (2) times their salary without providing evidence of insurability.
In addition to a competitive healthcare package, DPSCD offers employees the opportunity to elect accident, cancer, critical illness, disability, Secure ID, family term life and whole life protection coverage. Employees who are new to public school employment in Michigan can choose between two (2) different retirement options. The first option is a hybrid option that includes a defined savings plan as well as a pension plan. The second option is strictly a defined contribution savings plan. Complete information is available through the State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services at http://pickmiplan.org. Employees previously enrolled in a State Retirement plan who did not cash out will be reenrolled in their previous plan and continue to build upon their years of vesting.
