• Lactation Rooms Available at All District Locations

In accordance with federal law, including the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (under the Fair Labor Standards Act) and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and as part of our continued commitment to supporting nursing employees, we want to remind all staff that designated lactation rooms are available in every building where employees are assigned to work.

While many of these spaces have been in place for some time, we have recently ensured locations are available in every District building and want to ensure that all employees are aware of them. These private, secure, and clean rooms are intended for employees to use during the workday if they have the need to express breast milk during work.

    Lactation Room Features:

    • Seating and a surface space for pumping supplies
    • Electrical outlet
    • Access to refrigeration in your designated worksite (e.g., breakroom) Employees are responsible for bringing their own cooler and/or storage containers for expressed milk.
    • Access to a nearby sink (e.g., breakroom or bathroom)

    Access:

For assistance with locating or accessing the designated lactation room at your worksite, please contact your School Principal and/or Supervisor. If you have any questions or need further support, please contact Employee Health Services (EHS) via email at dps.ehs@detroitk12.org or phone at 313-263-2891.

    Thank you.
