How to Apply for On the Rise Academy

The application for Cohort 6 will open on October 1, 2025 and close on November 30, 2025. A short overview of the application process is outlined in the graphic below:
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates who meet the following requirements are eligible for the On the Rise Academy Fellow Role:
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher
- Have a G.P.A. of 2.95 or higher
- Attend an On the Rise Academy Informational Session (register here)
- Pass DPSCD’s criminal background check
Former Fellows who were administratively removed from the program or who voluntarily withdrew are not eligible to reapply to On Rise Academy.

On your web browser, navigate to https://careers.detroitk12.org/ and select the “Teaching” category.

Then, search for the “On the Rise Academy Fellow” position.

The items listed below must be uploaded and submitted with the online application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Unofficial transcript of bachelor's degree or higher with cumulative G.P.A. (upload as an additional attachment to the application or email as an attachment to info.otr@detroitk12.org).

Sign up for an informational session. Attendance at an informational session is required for all applicants.
After completing the application, applicants will receive a follow-up email within 3-5 business days. Eligible applicants must successfully complete the hiring task by the deadline provided in the follow-up email to receive an invitation to an in-person interview.
