The Office of Fine and Performing Arts provides equitable opportunities for all learners to gain knowledge, skills, and confidence to become lifelong creators in the Arts. Our K-12 Arts program unlocks student potential through dance, music, theatre, and visual art.
Students are connected with meaningful college and career opportunities from a young age. The Cultural Passport program, a collaborative between external partners and DPSCD, brings our students to cultural institutions throughout the city and beyond, including: the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Opera, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
The Office of Fine and Performing Arts serves to prepare our students to achieve personal, collegiate, and career success. Our sequential K-8 curriculum creates a rigorous platform for them to excel in the Arts in preparation for their high school years. Offerings of beginning, intermediate, and advanced level courses in our high schools further prepare students for creative challenges after graduation.
Art and/or Music are offered at every school. Select K-8 schools feature an intensive education in the Arts. Students may choose to specialize in two art disciplines by applying to the Middle School Arts Conservatory housed within the following schools:
- Brenda Scott Academy
- Edward ‘Duke’ Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art
- John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy
- Spain Elementary-Middle School
For students desiring a rigorous, college-preparatory Arts curriculum, the Detroit School of Arts is the place for you. Detroit School of Arts is a nationally renowned high school offering a strong Academic and Arts Curriculum, with pre-professional study in Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Music Technology, Dance, Theatre, Speech, Radio/Television Production, Visual Arts, and Visual Communications.
Whatever type of learner you are, there is a home for you in Detroit Public Schools Community District. Through our wide course offerings, expanded Arts programs, and Cultural Passport, all students experience a connection to the Arts!
