FIRST Robotics Teams
-
Detroit Public Schools Community District participates in FIRST Robotics. Competitions for FIRST LEGO League Explore (FLLE), FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLLC), and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) typically take place from September to December. FIRST Robotics Competition (grades 9–12) typically runs from September to April, with the bulk of the tournaments taking place from February through April.
High School (FRC): The ultimate varsity sport where teams of high school students and their industry mentors design and build large-scale robots to battle in fierce 3 vs. 3 competitions on a 27’ x 54’ playing field.
Middle School (FTC): The premier middle school sport where teams of students, guided by mentors, design, and build 18 x 18-inch robots to battle in a FIRST designed game in a contest of ingenuity and innovation.
Upper Elementary (FLLC): Students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering by building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game and completing a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.
Lower Elementary (FLLE): FIRST LEGO League Explore gives early elementary school students and their adult coaches the opportunity to work and create together while they explore science and technology concepts. Teams build a LEGO WeDo model and create a Show Me Poster to share their season.
