    The Detroit Public School Community District, Student Code of Conduct provides expectations that outline appropriate behavior, responsibilities, and disciplinary actions for our district. The Code of Conduct is designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for everyone.

     

    Why It Matters
    The Student Code of Conduct helps maintain order, ensures fairness, and promotes a positive environment where learning can thrive.

     

    Key Components of the Student Code of Conduct:

     

    Behavior Expectations:

      • Respect for teachers, staff, and fellow students.
      • Following school processes, procedures, and policies.
      • Proper use of language and behavior (no bullying, harassment, or violence).

    Attendance and Punctuality:

      • Importance of being on time for classes and activities.
      • Rules about absences, truancy, and participation.

    Dress Code:

      • Guidelines on appropriate clothing, uniforms (if applicable), and personal presentation.

    Use of Technology:

      • Expectations for using devices such as phones, laptops, and internet access.
      • Prohibited actions, like cyberbullying or accessing inappropriate content.

    Academic Integrity:

      • Expectations around honesty in work (no cheating, plagiarism, or copying).

    Health and Safety:

      • Prohibitions on drugs, alcohol, smoking/vaping, and weapons.
      • Expectations for maintaining a safe school environment.

    Disciplinary Actions:

      • Addressing violating infractions, A, B, C, & D following the matrix (levels) and outlining the consequences from student/parent conferences up to exclusionary offenses.   
      • Details about the due process for handling misconduct.

    Student Rights and Responsibilities:

      • Rights to a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning space.
      • Responsibilities to respect others, property, and school.
