Experience HBCU
-
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) have been empowering, encouraging, and challenging African American students since the inception of The Institute of Colored Youth in Cheyney, Pennsylvania in 1837. Because Detroit Public Schools Community District is the largest urban school district in the state of Michigan, we want to ensure that we expose our students to all post-secondary education options, including HBCU's. Experience HBCU's is a district-wide initiative created and designed to inform students of the many benefits, programs, experiences, and opportunities that the 100 + HBCU's have to offer. Topics including scholarships, financial aid, career options and more will be covered through virtual events throughout the school year.
Common Black College Application
DPSCD High School students can now apply to over 60 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), at no cost, thanks to our partnership with the Common Black College Application. Students should contact their school counselor or college transition advisor (CTA) for more information and the fee waiver code.
