National Ancillary Critical Shortage

Greetings DPSCD Families,

Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) remains committed to providing the highest quality education and support to all students. There is a national critical shortage impacting our ability to provide continuous specialized services in select areas to students requiring school-based ancillary support. School districts nationwide report challenges in recruiting and hiring support services, including school social workers, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.

We continue to actively seek solutions to address this issue, including the exploration of expanding our number of contracting agencies, virtual resources, and the provision of compensatory services. While we are working diligently to mitigate the impact of this shortage, it is essential for you, as parents and guardians, to be aware of the efforts we are making to ensure your child’s needs are met.
