High school students who dream of becoming engineers, pharmacists or videographers will have the opportunity to earn college credits towards these and dozens of other dream careers while still in high school.
The District has reimagined its delivery of Career and Technical Education and now offers Career Academies in all high schools. Several programs lead to industry certification, licensing or college credits towards and associate's or 4-year degree.
DPSCD initiated the redesign of its CTE program and Dual College Enrollment program to more closely align with Michigan industries that are in-demand. High school students have the opportunity to pursue the following Career Pathways:
- Business and Entrepreneurship
- Healthcare
- Technology, Media, and Arts
- Law, Education and Public Safety
- Engineering, Manufacturing, and Transportation
- Construction
- Hospitality and Tourism (Service)
Students have the opportunity to earn 6-8 pathway aligned college credits per school year at no costs to the students. By 2020 every high school in the District will offer Dual College Enrollment courses aligned to the Career Pathways. Career Academies run the gamut from engineering, to construction, to music and media production.
