• The Investigative Operations Section (IOS) of the Detroit Public Schools Community District Department of Public Safety consists of plainclothes detectives tasked with conducting a broad range of investigative assignments. Detectives are required to assume responsibility for all misdemeanor and felony cases where a follow-up investigation is deemed necessary by the IOS commanding officer.

The IOS is responsible for processing crime scenes, collecting and preserving property and evidence, interrogation, and investigating computer and forensic crimes by monitoring illegal activity committed online and through other electronic means. Additionally, detectives also prepare paperwork for criminal proceedings, submit warrant requests to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, and testify in a court of law.
