Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism
The Attendance report shows the aggregate attendance rates for all students, chronically absent students, and not chronically absent students for the selected location.
Chronically absent students are defined as students who miss 10 percent or more days, including only students who were enrolled in a district for at least 10 consecutive days.
Prior to school year 2017-18, a student was counted as absent only if they missed a full day of school. Beginning with school year 2017-18, that criteria was changed so that students are counted as absent if they miss more than 50 percent of the school day. This aligns with Every Student Succeeds Act requirements. For details on this reporting, exemptions and other information, please see the Michigan Student Data System (MSDS)Collection Details Manual on the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) website.

College Destination
The College Destination report shows the colleges and universities in which public high school students enrolled after graduation.
College Destination features two unique count types: Initial Enrollment and All College Enrollments. Initial Enrollment shows enrollment rates in the first college attended after high school graduation. All College Enrollments shows initial and any subsequent postsecondary enrollments. Many postsecondary students tailor their education between more than one college or university, oftentimes due to program restraints and financial reasons, and the All College Enrollments count type includes these changes in the results.

M-STEP & PSAT 8 and MI-Access
Student assessment in grades 3 through 8 includes the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP), a summative assessment based on Michigan’s content standards, designed to measure achievement and growth effectively for most students.
Students are tested in all grades from 3 through 8 in Math and English language arts (ELA), grades 4 and 7 in Science, and grades 5 and 8 in Social Studies. For M-STEP, 11th grade students are tested in Science, and Social Studies. For MI-Access, 11th grade students are tested in ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
MI-Access tests come in three varieties: Functional Independence (FI), Supported Independence (SI), and Participation (P). More information about the MI-Access test and test accommodations for students can be found at the MI-Access website.
You can explore the M-STEP report by entity (school, district, intermediate school district, and statewide), by subject (ELA, math, science, or social studies), and by different demographic factors such as gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
The M-STEP report shows student performance, scaled score, and proficiency in ELA, math, science, and social studies.
