Remembering Dr. Juanita Clay-Chambers

  • July 9, 1947 – December 28, 2022

Dr. Clay-ChambersDetroit Public Schools Community District wishes to express our deepest sympathy regarding the passing of Dr. Juanita Clay-Chambers, a stalwart advocate of Detroit, Detroit school children, teachers, and residents.  For more than four decades (1966 - 2007), she dedicated her life to the quest of knowledge and sharing her discoveries with students and her countless mentees.

Dr. Clay-Chambers never left any student behind and brought a keen sense of service to her work. She taught children both academic and life lessons by demonstrating in word and deed her commitment to the entire well-being of her students. Not only did she love DPS students, but she also loved DPS. Indeed, she was a caretaker of the institution itself by ensuring that generations received a quality education from the state’s largest public school system. Further, she served as a mentor to many teachers and administrators including those coming along with (and behind her) in secondary education leadership. Her impact on generations of school administrators cannot be overstated.

Dr. Juanita Clay-Chambers is hereby honored and recognized by not only Detroit Public Schools and Detroit Public Schools Community District – but also by Detroit, Detroit school children, Detroit teachers, DPS administrators and all Detroit residents, for her important and valuable contributions by all Board Members, staff and students at the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
