FAQs
-
Where does this data come from?
All data available through DPSCD’s Open Data comes from MI School Data, the State of Michigan's official public portal for education data. We have pulled DPSCD’s data from this portal to make it available to our users.
-
Why does some data appear missing, with * or < symbols?
Some data is suppressed to protect the identity of students. Typically, if a student group contains less than 10 students (<10), their data will be suppressed. In some case, however, student groups are suppressed with less than 3 students (<3). Enrollment numbers are not suppressed. Please visit MI School Data for more information.
-
How often is Open Data updated?
The data is refreshed according to MI School Data’s refresh calendar.
-
Can I find student data through Open Data?
No. Open Data includes District and School level aggregates only. Student data can be requested through our External Research application portal.
-
What do I do if I need additional data not found on Open Data?
Additional data can be requested through our External Research application portal. Any questions can be directed to dpscd.research@detroitk12.org
-
Why might the data be different from other sources I have seen?
Any discrepancies in the data may be due to different aggregations, combinations of schools/students, or suppression rules, compared with other sources. We encourage you to read the documentation carefully, and email us with questions.

How do I download the data sets?
In order to Download, visit the DPSCD Open Data Files page. There you will see an accordion list with descriptions and a link to download each data set for the specific school year of interest.
