    Finding a School

    Detroit Public Schools Community District offers a variety of school options! Learn more below. 

    Neighborhood Schools
    All of our schools offer art and/or music, recess and physical education, a challenging curriculum and a commitment to community. To identify your neighborhood school, click here and enter your address.

    Examination High Schools 
    The District offers six rigorous college and career preparation programs that require an examination and have a competitive admissions process.

    Application Schools 
    Learn more about our specialty application K-8 and High School programs, including gifted, accelerated, single-gender and specialty high schools. 

    Montessori Schools
    Detroit Public Montessori is dedicated to the Montessori philosophy and accepts students by application.

    Fine and Performing Arts Schools
    We offer a comprehensive fine, performing and multimedia arts pathway program from grades 6-12, including our premier arts high school, Detroit School of Arts. To learn more about our Fine and Performing Arts schools, please click here

    Pre-Kindergarten
    In addition to its Montessori program, the District offers free Pre-K through the Great Start to Readiness Program. Students must be 4 by December 1st and families must meet income guidelines to qualify. Learn more about our pre-kindergarten program.

    Career and Technical Centers
    Students enrolled in a District high school can graduate with certification in various courses of study in seven industries. To learn more about our CTC programs, click here

    Kindergarten Requirements

    Kindergarten students must be five years old by September 1. If the child will be five by December 1, you can inquire about a waiver.

    Pre-Kindergarten

    A student must be four years old by December 1. For more information on our Pre-K enrollment, click here

    Transportation

    Elementary/Middle: School bus transportation is provided for elementary/middle school students who live more than 3/4 of a mile from their assigned neighborhood school. Find your neighborhood school here.
