    With more than 100 schools to choose from, the District offers a wide variety of programs to nurture your child's interests and talents.

    In addition to neighborhood schools that offer art and/or music and a challenging curriculum, we offer specialty programs (Application Schools), Examination High Schools, and Career and Technical Centers.

    Review the information provided below to guide you through all phases of the enrollment process.

    How do I enroll?

    We are now enrolling students for Fall 2020! Follow the steps below to enroll in a Detroit Public Schools Community District school or visit one of our Pop-Up Enrollment Centers. Click here to learn more.

    Please note that our Application schools and programs require students to be accepted through an application process before enrolling.

    Families enrolling their student in our GSRP Pre-Kindergarten program should complete the Pre-K Application before submitting enrollment paperwork.

    Fill out enrollment forms

    Option 1: Complete a Digital Enrollment Packet
    Forms can be printed, or completed on your device. If completing online, please download and save the forms to your device before filling them out.
    A parent or legal guardian will be required to complete and sign all enrollment forms.
    Forms are also available in Spanish, Arabic, and Bengali on this page.

    Option 2: Request Paper Enrollment Packet By Mail
    Use the survey link below to request one or more paper packets by mail. 
    In the survey, you can request to have any of the as-needed forms included in your enrollment packet. Please review the list above.

    We'll send you a paper packet within 7-10 business days. If you experience a delay, please contact us at (313) 240-4377.
     
    After completing your enrollment packet, you can drop it off at any Enrollment Drop Box* around the city. See below for more info.

    Option 3: Enrollment Drop Boxes

    Visit one of our Enrollment Drop Boxes located around the city to pick up and drop off enrollment packets! 
    Before dropping off completed packets, please be sure that you have followed all the instructions and sealed the packet completely before putting it in the drop boxes.

    If there are no blank enrollment packets left at the drop box location, please call (313) 240-4377 or complete the survey above to request a paper packet by mail.  
     
    Additional Documents
    When completing your enrollment packet, please include copies of the following documents. Do not include originals. 
    If unavailable now, you can bring original copies to the school before the start of the school year. 
    • Student's Immunization Records or a Waiver
    • Student's most recent transcript or report card - if applicable
    • Student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) - if applicable
    • Student's 504 Plan - if applicable

    Gather and Submit Enrollment Documents

    The following documents are required to complete the enrollment process - click here.
    Please do not submit student birth record, parent/guardian ID and proof of address via the Drop Boxes. To submit this paperwork, please visit a Pop-Up Enrollment Center or contact your school directly. 
    If you need further assistance, please call (313) 240-4377. If you are unable to supply any of the following documents, please notify the school immediately. You may be able to receive assistance.

    1. Student's Birth Record 
    Any one of the following documents is acceptable for demonstrating the student's date of birth.
    • Original birth certificate (preferred)
    • Baptismal or religious certificates showing the date of birth
    • Court records
    • Governmental records (county, military, passport, immigration)
    • Adoption records
    • Doctor or hospital records with a sworn statement
    • Family records (e.g. an entry in a family bible)

    Note: If an alternative birth record is used (i.e. something other than a copy of an original birth certificate), parents will be required to submit a notarized affidavit verifying authenticity of the birth record.
    Your school will reach out to you to complete this form before the start of school.

    2. Two Forms of Proof of Residency
    Any two of the following documents acceptable:
    • Driver's license
    • Detroit ID
    • W-2
    • Paystub
    • Public Assistance documents
    • Official government mail
    • Utility bill 

    3. Photo ID

    4. Other Documents: If you have the following documents and have not submitted them, be sure to do so before the start of the school year.

    • Student's Immunization Records or a Waiver
    • Student's most recent transcript or report card
    • Student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) 
    • Student's 504 Plan

    City of Detroit is offering immunizations this summer! 

    Not ready to enroll yet?

    You've done your homework, and know which school(s) you want to enroll your student(s) in, but aren't ready to submit your paperwork. 
    You can pre-enroll in any neighborhood school. 
    This will not hold a seat but will let us know you're interested and allow us to provide you with updates.
