Sign up to be a Volunteer Today! We know we must all do our part to help students rise, sign up to be a volunteer today! There are plenty of opportunities such as Let’s Read, Cafeteria, School Greeter/Arrival or Dismissal, PTA or SAC or other programs, the DPSCD invites you to consider ways that you can contribute to our students’ rise. In accordance with DPSCD policy, all volunteers must submit or renew their volunteer status through the galaxy volunteer process.

Update Your Contact Information Before School Starts: Families, we are encouraging you to contact your child’s school and update your information if you have moved, have a new phone number, or changed any contact information, also include your email address. If you have children attending multiple schools, please ensure your contact information is updated at each school. Please see directions below to opt into the robo call system.

Family Health and Wellness! As a reminder, any new students to the district as well as students entering kindergarten or 7th grade are required to be current on their childhood vaccines (e.g., diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, meningococcal conjugate, and chicken pox). Parents who wish to seek a waiver for the required immunizations must make an appointment with the Detroit Health Department at (313) 876-4667 prior to enrollment.
Join us for Summer on the Block: Families, join the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team Thursday, July 20, 2023. There are two locations and times to fit your schedule: Detroit International Academy for Young Women 5161 Charles St. Detroit MI 48212, 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. or Edward “Duke” Ellington 9860 Park Drive Detroit MI 48213, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. There will be free food, giveaways, fun activities for the children, resources and enrollment support for families. Meet Up and Eat Up: The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally funded, state-administered program more commonly known throughout the community as “Meet Up and Eat Up.” As summer school kicks off, designated summer school sites, linked here, will welcome students to enjoy a healthy breakfast and lunch meal daily with lawn signs, posters, and/or banners stating: “Meet Up and Eat Up, Healthy Food Served Here.” Dial 2-1-1 or text FOOD to 304-304 to find a Meet Up and Eat Up site in your neighborhood, or search the state map for locations.
Reading is Fun at the Detroit Libraries: In partnership with the Detroit Public Libraries (DPL), the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) invites all DPSCD students and families’ grades K-12 to engage in summer reading activities at your local DPL. As part of the Let’s Read Initiative, DPSCD encourages families to keep students sharp over the summer by visiting local libraries, and continuing learning throughout the summer.
