Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

Congratulations DPSCD’s Grad Rate is Increasing: The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) released high school graduation rates for the 2021-2022 school year last Friday, showing Detroit Public School Community District (DPSCD) increased by 6.5 percentage points from 64.5% to 71.1%. The District’s increase outpaced the state’s, which improved by 0.5 percentage points to 81%. DPSCD’s 4-year dropout rate also declined by 0.6% from 14.5% to 13.8%. The State’s 4-year dropout increased by 0.5% from 7.7% to 8.2%.  Read More.  

Parent Listening Session is Tuesday at 5 p.m. February 28, 2023: Parents and families the next Parent Listening session with Dr. Vitti and Board Member Vaughn is on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 5 p.m. This is your opportunity to offer input on your child’s educational experience as well as get status updates on development across the District.   

Parent Academy This Week: Parents and families, our free Parent Academy workshops are back in session this week following Winter Break. Highlights this week include Math in the D: Eggdrop Challenge and an ASL (American Sign Language) class, both on Thursday, March 2, 2023. 8th Grade Parents and Families, the Level Up to High School Expo is Saturday, March 18, 2023: 8th grade students and families, the Level Up to High School Expo is Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Renaissance High School (6565 W. Outer Dr. in Detroit). The morning will begin with an information-packed Town Hall to set the tone on what your incoming high schooler will need to stay on the path to success in high school; register today to save your seat. All Neighborhood, Application, and Exam High Schools along with support services departments will be present. In addition, our community partners will have valuable resources for students leveling up. We will see you at the Level Up to High School Expo on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Examination High Schools Round 2 Application Window is Open! Speaking of 8th grade students, parents, and families, do you have an 8th grade student or students interested in attending one of DPSCD’s six Examination High Schools? Let them know that the Round 2 application window is now open. All interested students are encouraged to apply.
