Check Out the 5 Things You Need to Know This Week
- Parent Academy adds online training opportunities- The District recognizes the challenges that you have faced while navigating our online learning platforms during the initial weeks of the new school year. To help you overcome the problems, DPSCD’s Parent Academy has added training sessions for families throughout this week and running until mid-October. The sessions include logging students on, basic navigation, device setup as well as using Clever, Teams, Schoology, and PowerSchool. You can sign up by going to the District’s website https://www.detroitk12.org/ and searching for Parent Academy.
- COVID-19 screening for families- As you likely know, DPSCD requires temperature checks and screenings daily to enter District schools and buildings. In conjunction with public health authorities and Wayne RESA, you can get more information on monitoring your child’s health by watching the following video: https://youtu.be/96LJQ9AYrSE. To report any confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, please contact the Detroit Health Department at (313) 876-4000.
- UPDATED AND CORRECTED 9-22-20 Getting a Device for Virtual Learning: All Connected Futures final distribution dates took place the first three weeks of school. If you did not pick up a Connected Futures tablet on one of the extensive distribution dates this summer and fall, please contact your school to pick up a loaned laptop to participate in virtual learning.
- #DPSCDVotes- Voting is the foundation of our democracy. Raise your voice by registering to vote on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd as part of National Voter Registration Day. In conjunction with When We All Vote, the District is providing a link to help you register to vote: https://myschoolvotes.whenweallvote.org/dpscdvotes
- Parent Academy-Curriculum and Instruction sessions: In addition to more online training sessions to help parents and students navigate online, Parent Academy, in conjunction with Curriculum and Instruction, will kickoff a weekly series to inform the community of the upcoming diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments. Starting on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at 4 p.m., these critical sessions will apprise families of the assessments that will be given to K-12 students during the 20-21 school year. The online meetings will include getting an understanding of assessment windows, support for test preparation and information on how assessment results help educators and the District make the best educational decisions for our students.
