The Support System That Never Fails: My High School Journey
Throughout my high school journey, my friends have been my rock. They stood by me through thick and thin, never wavering in their support. They were there for me through my troubles, mental health struggles, and my eating disorder. Not once did they doubt my abilities or intentions, and they never hurt me in any way. Their unwavering support has been an essential part of my success and well-being.
If there's one piece of advice I would share with incoming freshmen, it's to be yourself. Don't try to mold yourself into someone you're not, because it will only change you in ways you may not want. I've seen friends lose themselves trying to fit in. Instead, stay open-minded and embrace new learning opportunities, meet diverse people, and seize new chances that come your way. Remember, high school is what you make of it, so make it worthwhile.
Leveraging the resources available in high school can significantly enhance your experience. I took advantage of AP (Advanced Placement) classes and held various leadership positions such as being a part of Student Council, Women of Tomorrow, and Detroit Executive Youth Council (DEYC). These opportunities not only enriched my academic life but also helped me build a robust support system that continues to back me up.
As I look toward the future, I have clear goals and a strong foundation to achieve them. I plan to attend Oakland University in the Fall, where I will double major in Psychology and Communications, with a minor in Journalism. After obtaining my bachelor's degree, I aim to become a writer and motivational speaker focusing on mental health advocacy.
The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) has played a crucial role in preparing me for the next stage of my life. Through networking opportunities, a strong support system, and involvement in DEYC, I gained invaluable experience. Working at General Motors during my sophomore year and meeting my incredible mentor further enriched my development. Thanks to these experiences, I am now growing into the young woman I've always aspired to be.
High school is a journey filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and build lasting relationships. By staying true to yourself and making the most of the resources available, you can pave the way for a bright and promising future. My experiences have shaped me into a resilient and ambitious individual, ready to conquer the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
