Parents: Learn How to Better Support Your Students at Heroes Conference on Thursday, March 23
All parents are invited to gain new insights and resources at Detroit Public Schools Community District Parents are Heroes Conference Thursday, March 23rd, at Detroit Renaissance Marriot Hotel from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our DPSCD staff, parents and community members will come together to learn, share and support one another as they engage new resources and tools to better support and parent their students.
The conference will include workshops that tackle a variety of issues, such as the challenges and influences of social media, how parents can realize the promise of our sons and daughters, setting aspirational goals for yourself and your students, and tips on managing stress and getting fit for living a healthy life.
Speakers include Jason Wilson, an author and speaker who was recently featured on ESPN, and who is also the CEO of faith-based nonprofit, The Yunion, and director of Cave of Adullam Transformational Training Academy. Wilson has been a long-time champion of boys and men, and mentors youth across Detroit through youth development programs.
Jennifer Nacif is a child development speaker and radio and TV personality on CNN Spanish, Wake Up America and the Today Show, and has led promising work around child development. She helps parents learn more about their children and how to motivate their children in school and at home.
Comedian Melvin Bender will provide laughter and comedic relief as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
The event also includes a free plated breakfast and lunch, free parking, giveaways and community resource vendors.
The Renaissance Center is located at 400 Renaissance Dr. West, Detroit. For questions, call Destinee Williams at (313) 873-7490.
