DPSCD March Activities You Don’t Want to Miss

This month we are springing forward, and we have several events and activities planned to continue to help students prepare for their rising futures.

The Expect Respect Character trait is Honesty. DPSCD students will participate in activities and lessons related to honesty. Let’s be honest, we are excited that spring is on the way. How are you helping your student practice this character trait?

March is also National Reading Awareness Month, if you have not yet signed up to volunteer for Let’s Read, make that your primary goal! We love how you are doing your part to help students rise!

Also, this month, we are preparing our middle school students and particularly our 8th graders for high school. Register today for the 2023 Level Up High School Expo, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Renaissance High School 6565 W. Outer Dr. in Detroit

The morning will begin with a student and leader panel providing an information-packed Town Hall to prepare you and your child for the high school experience register today to save your seat. Following the engaging townhall you’ll be able to explore the DPSCD 28 high schools and their career pathways. Did you know DPSCDs grad rate is rising, we are preparing students for their futures. As the third quarter winds down this month, parents and families are encouraged to meet with their students’ teachers during Parent-Teacher Conferences on March 15, 2023, (High School) and on March 22, 2023, (K-8). Contact your school for more information.

Buzz, Buzz, DPSCD’s Mathematics Bee Competition is coming! It will highlight the best and brightest mathematical fluency minds in lower elementary (1st and 2nd grades) and upper elementary grades (3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. This month our principals are identifying their program managers. The Mathematics Bee itself will be held at Martin Luther King Senior High School on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

The Madness of March is here when it comes to basketball. All DPSCD girls and boys varsity basketball teams will participate in the state tournament, with several schools having a chance for a prolonged run. Other Noteworthy Dates in March:

Remember to spring your clocks forward when Daylight Savings Time returns on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 2 a.m. And speaking of spring, DPSCD’s spring break is March 27, 2023-March 31, 2023. All DPSCD schools and offices will be closed that week.
