Winter Break Resources for DPSCD Students and Families Feb. 20-Feb. 24

Providing service to our students, families and staff throughout the year is a Core Value of Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). As you prepare to enjoy your Winter Break from school, the week of February 20, - February 24, 2023, students and families can use this guide to access resources ranging from immunization and vaccination clinics, mental health resources and much more! Vaccinations and Immunizations for the Community

In partnership with the Detroit Health Department (DHD), DPSCD families can continue to make immunization and vaccination appointments during the District’s Winter Break (Feb. 20-Feb. 24). Please visit https://detroitmi.gov/departments/detroit-health-department for information to book Booster and Pediatric Vaccination appointments at the Detroit Health Department’s 100 Mack location. You can schedule your appointment online or by text.

For more assistance, call the Detroit Health Department Immunization Clinic at (313) 876-4667. For COVID-19 testing at the Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd., please visit https://detroitmi.gov/departments/detroit-health-department/programs-and-services/communicable-disease/coronavirus-covid-19. DPSCD Staff and Student COVID-19 Testing

DPSCD staff and students can continue to get COVID-19 testing from LynxDx at two school locations: Renaissance High School (6565 W. Outer Drive, Detroit, 48235) and East English Village Preparatory Academy @Finney (5020 Cadieux Rd. in Detroit, 48224). During Winter Break week (Feb. 20-Feb. 24), the Renaissance and EEVP@Finney will have the following operating hours:

OPEN: Monday February 20^th 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
CLOSED: Tuesday, February 21^st, Wednesday, February 22^nd and Thursday, February 23^rd,
OPEN: Friday February 24^th 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
OPEN: Saturday February 25^th8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Behavioral Health Support During DPSCD’s Winter Break (Feb. 20-Feb. 24)

Supporting the Whole Child is one of DPSCD’s Priorities. In conjunction with Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN), students, families and the community at large will have access to behavioral health resources while DPSCD is on Winter Break (Feb. 20-Feb. 24):

Through the DPSCD’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I), you can keep your child engaged during the Winter Break with a bevy of resources from maintaining momentum with literacy and math instruction to games designed to enhance learning. Please see the chart below with links for a variety of activities for students of all ages:

K-4	Farmer’s Almanac for Kids	The Almanac for Kids features a treasure trove of fun facts, awesome activities, and stellar stories that will keep kids of all ages entertained every day of the year!	Website
K-8	iReady	Keep up momentum on with literacy and math instruction designed just for your student. Completing 45 minutes of iReady each week is ideal!	Clever Application
4 - 12	Kahn Academy	On Khan Academy, students can independently practice math, science, computing, history, art history, economics, and more. They can even prep for tests like the SAT and AP.	Website
5-12	Farmer’s Almanac	The Old Farmer’s Almanac is more than just planting charts. It is updated each day with recipes, forecasts, astronomical data, and historical trivia.	Website
5 - 12	StarTalk	The StarTalk® podcast covers a wide range of science topics from sports to space. Listen to guests like scientists Neill deGrasse Tyson, comedians, and tech industry leaders explore the world of science in people’s lives.	Website
6 - 12	iCivics	In iCivics, students play innovative games that help them understand how our political systems work by allowing them to experience it first-hand and empowering them to address real-world issues. Many games are even available as phone or tablet apps.	Website
