DPSCD Teacher of the Year Nominee Candice Jackson Leads by Example with Her Students and Colleagues

Candice Jackson is currently a third-grade math, science and Math Master teacher at Mann Learning Community after previously serving as a second-grade teacher at the westside school. When students walk into Ms. Jackson’s classroom, they are instantly met with her patient, caring and ever-calm disposition, as she works to build great relationships with them. The care Ms. Jackson takes with her students is seen in her devotion to their academic growth and helping them rise to their full potential.

In addition to her classroom work, Ms. Jackson is committed to the whole child needs of her students. Previously, she chaired the Pretty Brown Girl Club at Mann and co-founded Mann Girls Matter, helping female students find their voice. The strong relationships she has with her students also carries over to the teachers and staff at Mann.

As a Master Teacher, Ms. Jackson leads from the front and the back as an example of what professionalism is as an educator. She facilitates Mann’s professional development programs as well as finding time to impart her knowledge and wisdom districtwide by helping her teaching brethren on topics such as Eureka Math. And she’s also enhancing her own professional credentials by finishing her final course in order to obtain certification in administration.

Ms. Jackson greatly impacts every person she comes across at Mann. Any student who walks into her classroom will be loved, challenged, and prepared with the belief that they can achieve greatness in anything that they do. As a leader in the building, Ms. Jackson is a peer leader who demonstrates accountability and dependability. She manages the duties of a rigorous teaching schedule and being a Master Teacher with grace, and is a wonderful asset to DPSCD.

Candice was nominated for this year’s DPSCD Teacher of the Year and made it as a top five finalist. Congratulations and good luck!
