DPSCD Students Rise Up Through Online Learning: Focus is on Education

Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) students are sharing words of encouragement stating why staying focused on their education during the remote learning period is so important. The Office of Communications emailed Rachel Kabala, a senior at Ben Carson and here is what she had to say.

Q: How do you stay motivated during virtual learning?
A: I stay motivated during virtual learning by setting daily personal goals for myself and playing music when completing my class work.

Q: How do you stay engaged in virtual class and why is it important to do so?
A: I stay engaged during virtual school by actively engaging in class discussions and volunteering to read passages. It is important to me that I stay engaged because this is my last year in high school before I graduate in June! So, I need to keep my grades up!

Q: What is your ultimate educational goal?
A: My ultimate educational goal is to attend college and major in Biomedical Engineering.

Q: What advice and/or tips do you have for other students to stay motivated or engaged in their online coursework?
A: You’ve got this! If you have managed to come this far, then just keep fighting because it'll only get better from here on out.

Q: Are you looking forward to resuming in-person? What are you looking forward to the most?
A: Yes, I’m really looking forward to eating lunch with my friends!

Rachel also gave really encouraging insight on why she decided to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Read more by visiting detroitk12.org.

The Office of Communications is doing a series of student highlights to help students and teachers stay encouraged and engaged during these trying times. If you would also like to lend your encouragement and experience for us to share, please email Ms. Jaren Roberts at jaren.roberts@detroitk12.org. Be sure to include a selfie!
