To keep students engaged and drive attendance, the Detroit Public Schools Community District has launched a “Show Up and Make It Count” Attendance contest. We’re calling on all DPSCD students and families to face off by submitting a video (one minute or less) the week of October 12-25 for a chance to win a MacBook or other prizes*!

Individual and school-wide attendance rates improve students’ chances of winning, so students should encourage classmates to participate in all classes! School-wide prizes for overall and most improved attendance will also be awarded. Winning videos will also be reposted on District social media accounts.

To enter in the contest, students can submit videos via online submission form and Instagram** by:

  1. Tagging @detroitk12
  2. Using the hashtag #DPSCDShowsUp, and
  3. Using the following link to finalize the submission: https://bit.ly/3iKMjS1

Video messages and content should focus on one of the following:

  • The importance of being in class every single day
  • Memorable school moments
  • “School favorites”—favorite teacher, favorite class, favorite game/pep rally/event, etc. – the more creative the better!

*Group video participants will receive smaller prizes that, in sum, equate to the dollar value of a MacBook.

Must be a currently enrolled Detroit Public Schools Community District student and must be marked present in each of their scheduled classes at least once between Wednesday, October 7 and Friday, October 16th to be eligible for grand prize and raffle prizes. PowerSchool attendance data will be used to verify attendance. Submissions, which should be in the form of video that is less than 1 minute long, must be submitted via Qualtrics at this link between 12:01 a.m. EST on October 12, 2020 and 11:59 p.m. EST on October 25, 2020 to be eligible. Video submission should focus on one of the following: the importance of being in class every single day, memorable school moments, or “school favorites”—favorite teacher, favorite class, favorite game/pep rally/event, etc. All submissions must be in alignment with the Student Code of Conduct. Students may also choose to share their videos on their own social media platform (i.e., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or Twitter) using the hashtag #DPSCDShowsUp and tagging @Detroitk12, but doing so is not a requirement to be entered to win. Students under 13 years of age will need parental consent via the online submission form in order to participate.

If desired, students may record and submit group videos with other students. Group videos must adhere to COVID-safety, social distancing, and Code of Conduct guidelines. All students participating in the video must meet the above outlined attendance thresholds for the video to be eligible. Each student in the group must submit their own Qualtrics form with the link to the group video to be considered. When submitting a group video via Qualtrics, all students and schools must be named. If a group video earns the grand prize, participants will receive smaller prizes that, in sum, equate to the dollar value of a MacBook.

A panel of three to four (3-4) DPSCD marketing team employees will weigh two factors to determine prize winners: 1) quality of production and 2) overall message as it relates to the importance of being in class every single day, memorable school moments, or “school favorites.” The top five (5) overall submissions will be announced on October 27, 2020. At that point, public voting to determine a grand prize winner will begin. Public voting will be judged by the number of “engagements,” “shares” or “comments” on the Detroit Public Schools Community District’s Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Detroitk12), Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/detroitk12), and twitter (https://twitter.com/detroitk12) accounts between 12 p.m. EST on October 27, 2020 and 9 a.m. EST on November 2, 2020. The grand prize winner will be announced on November 5, 2020. A list of all winners will be posted on detroitk12.org on November 5, 2020.

Additional prizes will be awarded to all students at the school that has highest average attendance from October 7, 2020 through October 16, 2020; the school that has the most improved attendance (as measured by comparing attendance rates from the week of October 7-13, 2020 to the week of October 14-20, 2020); and to one student (as selected via raffle from among qualified entries) at each of the top 25 schools with the highest attendance.
