Students, Submit Your Artwork for Hispanic Heritage Month Before Oct. 5

Embrace it...honor it...celebrate it! The District wants you to be heard.

Hispanic Heritage Month is nationally recognized as being the days between September 15 and October 15. In our appreciation of the Hispanic and Latino community, we are launching a Hispanic Heritage Month Project district-wide where all DPSCD students are encouraged to participate. Both individual and collaborative work will be embraced for electronic submission.

We are excited to recognize our Hispanic and Latino families and diverse student body by showcasing their artwork such as literature, music, drawings, dance, and many more. Art pieces need to reflect the Hispanic Heritage Month theme, “Be proud of your past, embrace the future.”

Works of art will be accepted until Monday, October 5. We ask that video projects are around three minutes or less in duration. Submissions will be compiled into a video presentation to highlight all appropriate students’ artwork. The final video will be posted on the district’s website and social media.

Submit your pieces to Audry Hawkins at audry.hawkins@detroitk12.org or to Lucille Shaw at lucille.shaw@detroitk12.org with the subject line titled “Hispanic Heritage Month.” You also need to include your name, school and grade, teacher’s name and title of your project. All participating students or groups will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution.
