DPSCD adds resources to help students and families navigate online learning platforms
Click here. Drag there. Drop here. There have been moments where DPSCD students and families have felt overwhelmed trying to navigate the online learning applications thus far this school year. Another adjustment in what is a hard and unprecedented time for all of us.
To help simplify the process for you, the “Big Three” platforms for your use are Clever, Teams and Schoology. Clever is where the action starts. Through your students Clever account, the large C icon on the screen of your DPSCD wireless tablet, you will unlock Teams and Schoology.
Teams is the portal that takes you into a meeting. Schoology, meanwhile, is the place for resources and materials. Together, this dynamic duo of learning platforms provides the audio and video to connect with teachers and classmates (Teams) and the organizational capacity to help students do their classwork throughout the school year (Schoology). You can learn more about using Clever, Teams and Schoology by watching the video presentation from DPSCD’s Office of Strategy at: https://www.detroitk12.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=11832.
The District recognizes the challenges our families have faced with online learning during the first few weeks of the new school year. In addition to the video presentation, DPSCD’s Parent Academy has expanded support for online learning until mid-October. We will now have sessions Monday-Thursday and on Saturday. Please use the following link https://www.detroitk12.org/resources/parents/parent_academy to see the complete schedule and sign up.
The District also added an IT Support Hotline for students and families using a 1-833-466-3978 phone number. The IT Support Hotline will operate Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. You can also call the Parent Hotline at (313) 240-4377, Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-5 p.m. with questions or concerns. Please note that the District’s Homework Hotline will continue from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday as well as the Mental Health Hotline (same hours). You can contact each by using the 1-833-466-3978 number.
Finally, a reminder that Every Day Counts when it comes to your child’s learning and attending school in the District. Wednesday, October 7 is Count Day for the fall. Please be sure to help us ensure an accurate count of our students by having your child in class whether its face to face, online or in one of our Learning Centers on October 7.
