Similar to our Return to School plan that includes extensive safety measures to protect students, teachers and staff while learning face to face or in a Learning Center, the Detroit Public Schools Community District is prepared with safety protocols for the return of fall high school sports, most notably football. And what a return it will be in the DPSL when perennial powers King and Cass Tech battle this Saturday, September 19 at 3 p.m. at Cass Tech.

In conjunction with mandates from the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and the state of Michigan, DPSCD has in place an array of safety measures that will enable spectators to enjoy the return of football while also exercising the necessary precautions intended to contain and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As with safety measures at District schools, spectators should be prepared for temperature checks and symptom checks upon entering Cass Tech’s stadium Saturday afternoon. In addition, as it is at DPSCD schools for face to face/Learning Center activity, face masks/covering are required---no exceptions! You can find a link to the complete list of safety protocols as well as ticket eligibility here: https://www.detroitk12.org/Page/12256.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact DPSCD Athletics by email at: dpsl@detroitk12.org. The District thanks you in advance for your patience and understanding as all of us adjust and navigate as safely as possible whether in a classroom or on the playing field.

Speaking of the playing field, DPSCD Executive Director of Athletics James Alexander said the return of fall sports (including football) is positive for all students. “We hope to have a successful season as we make the necessary safety adjustments during the pandemic.”
