Options for Parents: Survey now available, face to face or online for the fall

DPSCD is committed to meeting the needs of all families and students. As the District prepares for school during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are planning for each of our students to return to school either face-to-face or online. In an effort to determine how to allocate resources across the district, we are asking each family to take the survey that was sent to each student’s district email. Families will take the short survey and indicate their choice for each child. Please take the survey today by checking your student’s DPSCD email account or clicking this link https://bit.ly/DPSCDReturn.

The DPSCD Board-approved Reopening Schools plan, a collaborative effort between the Board, District administrators as well as stakeholders and supporters, reflects the District’s responsive approach to the unique educational, social and economic needs of our students and families, despite the uncertainty and anxiety all of us have felt during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In developing our Reopening Schools plan, we are seeking to meet the needs of all families and students, specifically their unique learning needs. We are doing this by planning to provide an option for face to face learning or online learning, contingent on additional guidance by the federal and state government regarding the reopening of schools specifically whether schools will have an online or in-person learning option and whether either option would be fully funded.

In addition to getting familiar with our Reopening Schools plan, we strongly encourage you to take part in this survey.  It is intended to help us plan for supporting you during the upcoming school year starting day 1 on September 8. The survey will be live as of July 21, 2020. We are encouraging families to complete the survey in the next two weeks. The final deadline to complete the survey is Aug. 21.

Each student will receive an email and a survey link prompting families to complete the survey. Please complete a survey for each child attending a DPSCD school for the 2020-2021 school year.

We are prepared and we are implementing extensive safety procedures for those who opt for face to face learning. Some of the safety measures include:

  • All DPSCD staff will be required to test negative for COVID-19 upon returning to work.
  • Daily symptom checks for families, students and staff prior to entering a school building.
  • Daily temperature checks.
  • Wearing of masks by teachers and students.
  • Smaller class sizes.
  • Having nurses available for care.
  • Thorough cleaning of classrooms and buses and,
  • Social distancing and availability of hand sanitizer for all schools and classrooms.

The District recognizes the profound impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our community. This is hard work and uncharted territory for all of us. We look forward to the upcoming school year as we all learn to adapt while remaining focused on raising student achievement for the District’s 51,000 students in the 20-21 school year.
