WHAT: To continue to serve the community, beginning July 2, Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) will move from a COVID-19 shut down model to a Summer Food Service Program. Under the summer model, students attending summer school at 23 locations will receive breakfast and lunch daily, and a total of 14 schools will continue to offer Grab and Go meals until August 20.
Starting Thursday, July 2, Grab and Go meals will be available on Mondays and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Families will receive meals for three days on Monday and four days worth of meails on Thursday. DPSCD proudly mobilized and served more than one million meals to students and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHY: “Study after study shows a strong link that children who have a complete breakfast perform better at school,” said Machion Jackson, Assistant Superintendent of Operations for DPSCD, who oversees the Food Service Programs for the District. “Providing breakfast and lunch through our Summer Food Service Program is another way we can help our students who are in summer school get what they need to succeed.”
