November Board Recognition, Charisse Woods, Chess Master in the Making
At the November Regular Board Meeting, the DPSCD Board of Education and Dr. Vitti recognized Charisse Woods, a Cass Technical High School 9th grade student for pursuing the core value of Excellence!
Charisse is a chess master in the making. This year, she attended the World Youth Chess Championship in Mumbai, India to represent not only the USA, but Detroit. Charisse is the first Detroit student to ever attend the world championship for two consecutive years. She went for the first time in 2018 as an 8th grader. Her goal? “I want to become the first black female chess master in the world.”
She is in the process of earning her titles and did very well in India this past October, winning 4.5 out of 11 games. Charisse competed against students from Namibia, Belgium, Latvia, Iran, Sri Lanka and India.
We are #DPSCDProud of Charisse's accomplishments and dedication to her goals.
