Exam High School Application Assistance

  • To help applicants understand the unique offerings of each school, and to assist with the application process, Detroit Public Schools Community District will offer a variety workshop opportunities during the application window.

Each will be presented multiple times, with additional application assistance time during application deadline weeks. We encourage applicants to sign up for an application assistance workshop near them.

Additional workshops may be scheduled upon request if at least 20 people will be in attendance.

    What to bring

    • Applicant's latest school transcript or a report card from the 2018-19 school year that shows the applicant's cumulative grade point average
The two (2) most recent year-end report cards (17-18 school year and 18-19 school year). If a cumulative GPA is not visible, one will be calculated using only core academic subjects (Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies).
Note: Current DPSCD 8th graders who have attended for at least 2 years may not need to upload a transcript.
    • A draft of the student's essay.
We recommend bringing a flash drive with the essay. You will copy and paste it into the application form.
If this is not possible, a hand-written draft will be fine. The student will be able to type it into the application form.
    • The name, titles/relationship, email addresses and phone numbers for three (3) people who can serve as a reference for the student. Relatives may not be used as references.
    • DPSCD students should make sure they have their student ID number accessible.
