New Schools - Fall 2019

  • Detroit Public Schools Community District will be opening new schools and relocating one school in the Fall of 2019. Parent and community meetings will be occurring during the summer to introduce and meet school leadership, and to learn more about programs and offerings. These meetings will be posted to the Enrollment calendar. 

    New Schools

    • Edmonson Elementary
      Grades PreK - 4
      1300 W Canfield St., Detroit, MI 48201
      This school will be the District’s first Montessori-only school for PK-4 students and eventually serving as a PK-8.

    • Hamilton Elementary-Middle: 
      Grades K-8
      14223 Southampton St., Detroit, MI 48213
      This school will transition from a Charter to a district-operated K-8.

    • Barton Elementary:
      Grades K-5
      8530 Joy Rd., Detroit, MI 48204
      This school will reopen as a K-5 school near Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School to accommodate the demand for an additional school in that community.

    • The School at Marygrove
      Grade 9
      8425 W. McNichols Rd., Detroit, MI 48221
      On the Marygrove College campus, this school is a part of the P-20 partnership initiative. The 9th-grade class will be the first class in Fall 2019 and will expand by one grade level each subsequent year. Apply online at Exam School Application website.

    School Relocation & Grade Reassignment

    • Academy of the Americas
      Grades K-3
      3811 Cicotte St, Detroit, MI 48210
      Grades K - 3 will relocate from the Konkel St. building to the former Logan Elementary building on Cicotte St. Apply online on Application Schools website.

    • Academy of the Americas
      Grades PreK & 4 - 12
      5680 Konkel Street, Detroit, MI 4821
      The current Konkel St. location will host grades PreK and 4-12.  Apply online on Application Schools website.


    Submit the below documents with your enrollment packet.

    • Parent/guardian photo ID
    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Child's immunization record
    • Transcripts or report cards
    • Two forms of proof of address: Driver's license, Detroit ID, W-2, pay stub, public assistance documents, official government mail, utility bill, etc.

    Download the below enrollment documents. Fill out completely and sign. Submit enrollment forms with copies of other required documents to one of our Pop-Up Enrollment Centers which will be open until August 23.
