Our Fall/Winter "Welcome Wednesday" series has completed but stayed tuned for District-wide Virtual Open Houses this spring that will provide an in-depth, personalized overview of DPSCD schools. Join us for our Welcome Wednesdays K-8 Virtual Open House series! Explore your family's "right fit" amidst options that include Montessori curriculum, African-centered education, specialized arts programs, dual-language immersion and more. All offer a strong college and career-aligned curriculum; social emotional supports; certified, engaged teachers, and more!
During an open house, you will:
- Hear from a trio of DPSCD application and gems neighborhood schools
- Learn key information about each school's unique programming
- Meet principals, school leadership and families, and learn more about what makes their school unique

The Academy of Americas at Logan is a highly-sought K-3 application school that offers a unique 90/10 Dual Language Spanish Immersion model and a Bilingual Academic Program in Spanish and English within a traditional rigorous curriculum. English Language Arts is formally introduced in the 3rd grade, Science and Social studies instruction is in Spanish in early elementary grades and transitions to English in later grades and Literacy and Math instruction is provided in Spanish for grades K-3. AOA at Logan also offers additional programming such as robotics, fine and performing arts program, gardening and recycling clubs, athletics and Playworks.

The Academy of Americas (AOA) is a highly-sought application elementary-middle and high school (4-12) that offers a unique Dual Language Immersion, Bilingual Academic Program in Spanish and English within the traditional rigorous curriculum. English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies are in provided in English and Literacy and Math instruction is provided in Spanish for grades 4-8.
The high school offers a new bilingual education career pathway designed to develop 9-12 grade students with aspirations of becoming bilingual educators. Students have opportunities to begin work in developing as future classroom leaders through a comprehensive plan including student-teaching hours, leadership development courses and educational pedagogy. AOA program offerings include: the Bilingual Education Career Academy, college dual enrollment, fine and performing arts program, gardening and recycling clubs, athletics student government opportunities and robotics.

As one of the District’s highest performing schools, Charles Wright Academy of Arts and Sciences believes students who thrive in a technological environment will also thrive academically. Charles Wright is a new K-6 application school, and will add grades 7 and 8 over the next 2 years. Technology is featured in every classroom, acquainting students Mac notebooks, digital document readers, Neo 2 devices and a full media production center. Chrysler Elementary, also referred as the “School of Journalism” is an award-winning K-5 application school with a history of exemplary academic achievement. Cooke S.T.E.M. Academy (CSA) is PreK-6 neighborhood school that prepares scholars to meet the demand for integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, next level learning and workforce readiness. The interdisciplinary curriculum focuses on real world applications, which develops scholars into computational thinkers who are the knowledge constructors and designers of tomorrow. Edmondson Elementary is a free PreK-4 wall to wall Montessori school public school providing a child-centered, self-directed and hands-on learning environment. The curriculum supports student development through key areas of learning- practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture- and integrates visual art. The Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies School (FLICS), a PreK-8 program, is one of the only public immersion programs in the state, offering partial-immersion programs in French, Spanish, Japanese, or Chinese; this makes the FLICS language program one of the only K-12 language continua in four languages in the country. Additionally, FLICS provides a rigorous, college preparatory education that promotes cultural diversity and proficiency in the use of technology, mathematical reasoning, reading writing, the English language and a second language. Other programming includes robotics, athletics and positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).

King joined the new middle school Arts Conservatory, providing a direct pipeline to the District’s premier arts high school- Detroit School of Arts. Marcus Garvey Academy, a PreK- 8 application school, subscribes to an African-Centered approach to teaching, learning and social development. Marcus Garvey Academy’s (MGA) indicators of student success include continuous improvement, commitment to community empowerment and a love of lifelong learning. Students are afforded a rigorous curriculum that includes the core classes and infuses the Nugza Saba (Principles of Kwanzaa) and Calm Classroom. Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy (PRMXA) is the first public application school program in the United States to provide an African-Centered curriculum. Offering grades PreK-8, PRMXA provides culturally responsive instruction that prepares students, both academically and socially, to become productive citizens of the 21st Century. More than 80 percent of the school’s graduates matriculate to the district’s top examination high schools, and they house the District basketball championship. Program offerings include computer technology, athletics, dance, business and community support, and PTA opportunities.
