Stevens T. Mason Academy is committed to providing a safe and secure environment that promotes the positive and productive social-emotional learning of its entire student population. An 8th grade student promoted from Mason Academy to high school leaves with a plan for success and a sound, researched idea for college or a career plan.
As a One-to-One Technology Program, Mason Academy offers a blended learning model of instruction that will provide individualized integrated learning experiences through digital media. City Year Americorp Tutors work alongside our teachers and students to build positive and productive relationships and increase student achievement.
Our teachers use differentiated activities during small group instruction time. They continuously participate in professional development to implement our new curriculum tools in Reading and Math into their daily instruction.
Teachers have common preps to plan both with their grade level partner and a vertical team member. This allows for teachers to actively study their work both horizontally and vertically. This occurs so teachers can collaborate to implement strategies to increase the number of students that master our rigorous curriculum.
We utilize Microsoft OneNote Online, Microsoft Forms, Khan Academy, I-READY Online Supplemental Lessons and the One-to-One Technology Initiative to differentiate and individualize instruction for all students.
The teacher is no longer the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity. As students work on their technology-supported products, the teacher rotates through the room, looking over shoulders, asking about the reasons for various design choices, and suggesting resources that might be used.
