• All About Coleman A. Young Elementary School - 15771 Hubbell Ave., Detroit, MI 48227

Coleman A. Young Elementary School, serving grades Pre-K through 5, is a vibrant professional learning community with an enrollment close to 500 students. Staffed by a team of highly qualified educators, we are deeply committed to the holistic development of our students, aiming to cultivate not just academic excellence but also their physical, social, and emotional well-being. We offer a comprehensive range of intervention programs, ensuring that each student’s unique learning needs are addressed. Our exemplary prekindergarten curriculum is further enhanced by our partnerships with distinguished community organizations, such as the Metropolitan Church of God and the National Council of Jewish Women. These collaborations provide our students with an array of mentoring, tutoring, and expansive opportunities.

Central to our nurturing ethos is the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program, which champions positive behavior and fosters a culture of recognition and encouragement. By celebrating our students’ achievements and positive choices, we underscore the importance of respect, responsibility, and active community engagement.

In a direct response to student feedback, we have also introduced an innovative mentoring program. This initiative ensures that every student is paired with a dedicated staff mentor, offering a consistent source of support and emotional nurturing. These mentors are available to meet with their mentees regularly, providing assistance, a sympathetic ear, or a comforting hug as needed, ensuring no child feels unsupported.

At Coleman A. Young Elementary School, with nearly 500 young minds in our care, we prioritize the emotional well-being of each student, believing it to be integral to their overall success.
