Coleman A. Young Elementary School is honored by being the namesake of the powerful leader, Coleman A. Young. Coleman A. Young was the first African-American mayor of the city of Detroit. He served as mayor an unprecedented five terms. Coleman A. Young's thirst for knowledge coupled with his exemplary academic accomplishments makes him an inspiration to those students fortuante enough to attend Coleman A. Young Elementary School.
