Mrs. Ucal Finley

Mrs. Ucal Finley, a distinguished educator and a proud Detroit native, has recently been appointed as the Assistant Principal at Cass Tech High School. Born and raised in Detroit, Mrs. Finley is a graduate of Henry Ford High School, instilling in her a deep connection to the community she serves.

With an illustrious career spanning 24 years in the field of education, Mrs. Finley brings a wealth of experience to her role. A dedicated professional, she has spent the last two decades contributing significantly to the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) School System. Mrs. Finley's commitment to education has taken her through various roles at prominent institutions, including Detroit School of Arts, Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School, Western International High School, Crockett High School, and finally, Cass Technical High School.

Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Finley has actively engaged in multiple facets of educational leadership. She has served as a valued member of School Improvement, Assessments, and Enrollments Teams, showcasing her commitment to enhancing the educational experience. Her journey includes roles as a Mentor Teacher, Lead English Language Arts (ELA) 9 Teacher, and Supervising Teacher of Teacher Interns from both Wayne State University and Michigan State University.

Mrs. Finley's dedication extends beyond the classroom, with significant contributions to extracurricular activities. She has coached competitive Speech, Forensics, Debate, and Drama with organizations such as the Detroit Catholic Forensics League, Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association, and the Michigan Speech Coaches, Incorporated.

A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Michigan Council of Teachers of English, Mrs. Finley is deeply rooted in educational networks. Mrs. Finley aligns herself with a vision of core values that prioritize students first, striving for excellence while being committed to integrity, equity, service, and tenacity.

One of Mrs. Finley's favorite quote, attributed to Albert Einstein, encapsulates her educational philosophy: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
