Orton-Gillingham

  • Orton–Gillingham is a teaching style specifically designed to help readers make connections between letters and sounds. The program uses a direct, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy to children who have difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling.  DPSCD has adopted this approach to teaching phonics to students who are reading and performing below grade level. Our Exceptional Student Educators, Academic Interventionists and Para-Educators provide small group instructions to help studengts. instructions virtually to students through small group instructions in Teams channels.

"Orton-Gillingham is a wonderful program! It allows me to work with students specifically on letters and sounds. As they improve, they are able to sound out words and apply it to their reading skills."
