Our Carleton Cougars' athletic teams start as young as Kindergarten. Each program has its own schedule. Parents that are interested in signing up and/or volunteering to assist may contact the office at 313-866-8322.

Soccer
The Cougar Soccer Team is one of our organized co-ed sports led by Coach Drake. The program is available for boys and girls in grades 2-5 and centers around the fundamentals of soccer and team sportsmanship. Students are expected to attend weekly practices after school and all Saturday games. Parents who are interested in volunteering as an assistant coach, please contact the office, 313-833-8322.

Cheerleading
Cheerleading
The Cougar Cheerleading Team is a key part of our athletics program because they proudly represent our Carleton school spirit. The team is led by Coach Makun and provides valuable athletic and leadership opportunities for boys and girls in grades K-5. Coach Makun incorporates strength exercises, movement precision, flexibility training, and acrobatic techniques into her weekly practice sessions. There are no prerequisites or skills needed to try out besides the willingness to do your best , listen to instructions, and work well with others.
Grade Level Practice Days:
- Kindergarten -2nd: Mondays 2:45-4:45
- 3rd-5th: Thursdays 2:45-4:45

Academic Games
Academic Games
Academic Games is a national organization where 3rd - 5th grade students participate in math competitions. It uses the game of Equations which requires a high level of computation and problem solving skills. The elementary level focuses on using operations (+ – x ÷ ^) and introduces concepts such as factors, multiples, fractions and percentages. In order to join the Carleton Academic Games Team led by Ms. Perkins, students must have a C or higher math average, a recommendation from their math teacher, and exemplary behavior. Students who join the team are expected to attend weekly practices after school and all Saturday tournaments. If you need additional information, contact the school at 313-866-8322.

Chess
The Chess Club is led by Mrs. Belanger and is available for all students in 3rd - 5th grade. Students do not need prior experience or skills in order to join the club. Mrs. Belanger starts off with teaching the basics of learning the names of the pieces and their movement capabilities and advances to friendly competitions where students learn the strategy behind the game. THe club will meet after school once a week.

Coding
Mrs. Singleton leads the coding club which is open to 3rd-5th graders who have an interest in computers. Students will learn the basics of coding and use problem solving skills to complete code tutorials on Code.org. They will be introduced to the concept of web design and the goal is to learn to create their own code programs through the Scratch platform. The club meets after school once a week.

Dance
The Dance Club is led by Mr. Sanchez and is available for students in 1st - 5th grade. Students do not need prior experience or skills in order to join the club. Mr. Sanchez will teach basic dance fundamentals and techniques. Students will also have opportunities to create their own dance routines. The club will meet after school once a week based on grade levels.

Morning Reporters
Carleton Morning Reporters have the distinguished honor of starting the day off for the school. They use the PA system to lead the school in the Carleton Creed and the Pledge of Allegiance followed by lunch, weather, and school news. Students can express their interest to the teacher or teachers can recommend leaders on their own.
