Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center
Banks-Williamson Educational Center is a center-based high school in the Detroit Public School Community District (DPSCD) school system. Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center provides individualized instruction and educational programs, and services to students ages 14-19 with severe and moderate cognitive impairments and students that are severely multiply impaired as well as the medically fragile student achieve their academic goals. The students receive academic instruction in Mathematics, English/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. The student's are provided instructions in adaptive physical education and life skills management. The students participate in community-based instruction as well as participating in extracurricular activities.
Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center will be the first choice of parents, guardians, and caregivers of students with multiple developmental disabilities. The staff of Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center will offer a consistent state of the art instruction to students with multiple developmental disabilities. There will be an individualized education and transition program for each student that fosters an optimal level of independence for that student. Teachers will provide concise and accurate feedback to students, parents, guardians, and caregivers as it pertains to student ability and achievement. Upon completion of their educational program, students will have demonstrated their individual ability to live as productive citizens.
We will successfully educate in a manner consistent with each student’s ability. We will seek to utilize, and evaluate “Best Practice Methods” to ensure that all students develop their cognitive, social, creative, vocational, physical skills, and abilities.
Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center utilize attainment and the unique learning system (N2Y) curriculum for teaching and learning. Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center has a full media center and provides iPads/laptops to all students. We have a quilting program and life skills management course to support student learn important daily living skills. We provide self-contained classrooms for severely multiply Impaired, severely cognitively impaired, and moderate cognitive impaired.
