LeKisha Franklin-Shorter
LeKisha Franklin-Shorter is a dedicated educator with over 32 years of service to Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). A proud Detroit native, she was educated within DPS. She furthered her education by completing an undergraduate and first Master’s degree in special education at Eastern Michigan University. Her second Master’s in Reading & Literacy was achieved at Walden University. LeKisha has worked in various capacities within this school district, including a Paraprofessional, Teacher (E.I. & ASD), Transition Specialist, and currently as an ESE Supervisor.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Franklin-Shorter has been passionate about supporting students in their transition from school to adulthood, focusing on creating opportunities for success beyond graduation. “I truly believe that a person’s ability supersedes any disability”. This philosophy helps build confidence & resilience in the students & families she works for.
With her wealth of experience and commitment to the students, families & staff of DPSCD, she has made a lasting impact on the lives of many within the city of Detroit. LeKisha also believes that proper social emotional learning is a vital part of human development, equipping students with the skills, abilities, tools, and knowledge to build positive relationships, solve problems, make intelligent decisions, and achieve the necessary level of self-awareness. These attributes provide the foundation for success in life.
