Where academic excellence meets cultural empowerment. Located in the heart of Detroit, Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy proudly serves over 300 students in grades K through 8. As Detroit’s first African-centered public school, founded in 1991, we remain committed to preparing students to thrive in a global society while staying deeply rooted in their heritage. Our rigorous African-centered curriculum celebrates the rich history, culture, and contributions of people of African descent. We believe education is more than academics—it’s about identity, purpose, and leadership. Through culturally relevant instruction, we nurture critical thinkers, confident learners, and future leaders who understand their value and responsibility to their community and the world. At PRMXA, we focus on the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. Our rigorous programs in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies are infused with cultural context, fostering both achievement and self-pride. Our students consistently meet or exceed academic benchmarks, and we are proud of our legacy of excellence. Through strong partnerships, including our collaboration with Michigan State University, we provide innovative teaching practices, professional development, and enrichment opportunities that enhance student learning and teacher growth. At Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy, we are more than a school—we are a community dedicated to pride, purpose, and progress. We rise above every challenge and together, we are shaping the next generation of leaders grounded in heritage and prepared for the future. Offerings - African-Centered Education
