Dr. Jemel Hence
“The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson
My name is Dr. Jemel Moses Hence. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I am a product of Detroit Public Schools and Oak Park Public Schools. While in high school, I excelled both inside and outside the classroom as a scholar athlete. The value of an education was bestowed upon me as a child. My family taught me the value of an education. I graduated from the University of Michigan in August of 2006. I majored in psychology and studied mathematics for four years. While at the University of Michigan, I discovered my self-identity. I would tutor and mentor under-privileged children and peers from diverse backgrounds. I really loved it. That love later became motivation for my whole existence. I knew that I wanted to be an educator. I earned my master’s in education at the University of Phoenix in January of 2010. I earned my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of Phoenix in July of 2016. I have been an educator for 18 years and I have served as a Math Teacher, Master Teacher, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal. This is my second year as Principal at Mark Twain School for Scholars!
Finally, I am an educator and international leader. I believe in the Ralph Waldo Emerson philosophy, “The secret to education lies in respecting the pupil.” I am a committed parent, married and devoted educator. I am determined and focused on enhancing myself with the goal of impacting the lives of all people through education, because a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Please allow me to serve you and the organization as your next educational leader. Thank you.
Educationally Yours,
Dr. Jemel M. Hence
