Detroit GIS Day @ Wayne State University

On November 20, 2024, students from Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men had the unique opportunity to participate in Detroit GIS Day, hosted at Wayne State University. As one of Detroit's designated GIS pathway high schools, the academy emphasizes Geographic Information Systems as a critical area for student exploration and career preparation. During the event, students actively contributed by assisting with event logistics, engaging in hands-on workshops, and delivering insightful presentations that highlighted their growing expertise in GIS technology and its real-world applications.

This experience underscored the academy's commitment to fostering 21st-century skills and providing meaningful opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with professional practices. Through their involvement, the young men not only showcased their knowledge but also gained valuable exposure to industry professionals, cutting-edge technology, and potential career pathways. Detroit GIS Day served as a platform to inspire these future leaders to envision their role in shaping the fields of urban planning, environmental science, and data analysis.
