Mrs. Murleen Coakley

Murleen Coakley is a Detroit native. She is a proud alumni of Cass Technical High School. Principal Coakley’s teaching career began in Detroit, MI.  She has taught students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, providing instruction to students with special needs and the gifted and talented.  After teaching for 20 years in the Detroit Public School system, she moved into school leadership as an Assistant Principal for five years before accepting the leadership role as Principal of Greenfield Union in 2017. 

Principal Coakley currently resides in the City of Detroit with her husband and three children. 

She believes that a school’s foundation is built on a strong school culture and climate, which is built on positive relationships and community.  Mrs. Coakley believes that all students should be given a voice and allowed free expression to grow into future leaders in our society.   She is committed to enhancing outcomes for all students and their families.  Mrs. Coakley considers it an honor and privilege to service the students and families of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Her hope is to create a learning community that will benefit all students and families in Detroit.
