    August 2022

    Greetings Nolan Families,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! We are excited to welcome all our students back to school. The first day of school is August 29, 2022.

Life has looked quite different for us during this past 2 years and the goal is to return to some sense of normalcy this school year. The school day is from 8:30am to 3:40pm, with breakfast being served from 8:00-8:30am. Parents, it is extremely important that our students are present every day and on time! Attendance is crucial to our students’ academic success.

While the mask mandate has been lifted this school year, staff and students may still wear masks for personal comfort levels. We will maintain an “Isolation Room” for students that may become ill and COVID testing will be conducted through rapid testing with our school nurse as needed. In such cases, we will notify the student’s parent/guardian and all required district/health authorities.

Nolan will enforce the dress code per the Code of Conduct. Please note the following information for dress code:

    • Shirts - Black or White short or long-sleeved collared polo or oxford style shirts and turtlenecks.
    • Bottoms - All pants or skirts must be a solid color, khaki or black.
    • Jackets, cardigans, and sweaters are allowed in an accepted uniform color. Hoodies are not allowed.
    • Shoes – Athletic or laced shoes, and/or shoe boots, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed toe/closed heel shoes. Students shall not wear flip flops, crocs, house slippers, athletic slides or any footwear that could be hazardous.

Belts must be always worn by all students unless the slacks or the pants are designed to be worn without a belt. Sagging is unacceptable and undergarments should always be covered.

We are eager to educate your children and look forward to this school year. Teachers will continue to teach our district curriculum that is aligned to Common Core State Standards. Please visit our website regularly at www.detroitk12.org/nolan to stay abreast of updates throughout the school year, as well as listen to all robocalls and read notices sent home with students.

Nolan succeeds when we work collectively as a family! Even with the challenges we continue to face, we are excited about this school year with your children and look forward to working with you. If you have any ideas to further Nolan’s growth, questions or concerns, please speak with us so that we can proactively work together to guarantee the best for OUR children!!!

    Sincerely,
