Wendy W. Thornton

With more than 25 years in the field of education, I have developed a proven track record of guiding students toward successful academic achievement. As a behavior interventionist, I developed and executed behavior intervention plans, and the ability to create and promote a safe and productive working environment.

During my education tenure, I have successfully employed the scientific skills used by public health leaders such as acquiring data, analyzing it, and then using it to create individualized student learning plans. As an academic specialist, I have successfully used these skills to help schools and districts use data to make informed decisions and develop academic programs that have resulted in value-added increases in student achievement on varying teaching and learning assessment tools.

I possess extensive experience working in both, urban and diverse environments, with at-risk and excelling students. During my career in education, I have held several positions of increasing responsibility that include, School Improvement Team Chair, Curriculum Coordinator, Lead Teacher, Assistant Principal, School Principal/Director, and Deputy Superintendent. . I am proud to be listed in the 2005 Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, the proud recipient of the 2004 American Star of Teaching award from the US Department of Education, Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years, and Teacher of the Year finalist for Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA).
