Mrs. Shannan Richardson

Principal Shannan Richardson is a product of the Detroit Public Schools Community District, graduating from Cody High School in 1991. She attended Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History, and received her Teacher Certification from the University of Detroit Mercy. She went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

During her years of service with the Detroit Public Schools Community District, Principal Richardson served in many capacities that prepared her with the knowledge, ability, and skill set needed to be a successful school leader. She started her career in the district as a substitute teacher. After receiving her Teacher Certification, she worked at Crockett Midtown High School, (Formally Benjamin Carson High School) for eleven years, six years as a History Teacher and Social Studies Department Head, three years as the Dean of Culture and two years as the Assistant Principal. She recently served as the Principal at Thurgood Marshall and is excited to join the Trojan family.

She specializes in positively transforming the climate and culture of the learning environment. Principal Richardson believes in setting high academic standards, ensuring that high-quality instruction and learning take place daily. Her vision is to create a safe and supportive space where all students and staff can learn and work in an environment that values their uniqueness, challenges them to become critical thinkers, and inspires them to be their best.
