Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Derek Clark
Mr. Clark is a proud DPSCD graduate having attended Bates Academy and Communication & Media Arts High School. He completed his higher education at HBCU Fort Valley State University, where he received his bachelor's in History and Studied Mental Health Counseling in the graduate program. Mr. Clark also coaches Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball at Martin Luther King Senior High School.
Growing up in Detroit Mr.Clark has witnessed first hand and understands the troubles that students and educators endure in an academic setting. He believes the environment and family influences have a major impact on learning styles. Mr. Clark is on a mission to provide students with a positive learning environment by ensuring major aspects of students' identity aren't neglected and fostering an environment where differences are accepted and understood.
To promote cultural awareness, Dean Clark encourages staff, students, and the community to consider all the different aspects of culture that can influence our student's perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. He hopes that creating such an environment will entice students to reach heights that society didn't plan for.
